Release update

Postby andy.mac » Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:03 am

All,
DSL is still very slow - still no idea what's causing the issue. I hope to upload by the end of the week - likely Thursday or Friday when I will have some time to find some decent wireless connectivity  if my b-band isn't fixed by then.

Have you checked whether your line has started interleaving (CRC Error Correction). This can cause very slow speeds and high latency).

What router do you have? What is your SNR/Loop Attentuation?

Hope these hints help!

All - Anyone that can post a copy on a public FTP server, please pm me their snail-mail address.
Virgin Media are worse than useless - I apologise on their behalf. It's been 2 weeks now and I've had 1 day of acceptable download performance - uploads are being interrupted every 4-5 seconds, so even the best ftp clients die eventually - usually about 60-100 mb into an upload...

Update:
I've just scanned for open wireless APs nearby and it would appear that one of my neighbours have just fired up a new netgear AP that is giving me a good enough signal with no security enabled, so i've put my old laptop in the garage utilising their off-peak bandwidth ;-)
I'll check back in later with any news.
please send snail-mail addresses anyway in case they notice and boot me off.

Bad news - it failed last night after 300mb but I'll try again tonight. Still looking for (UK preferred) snail mail addresses for those able to host a download until I can get it up to global-domination.org

Can you rsync it to somewhere or put up a torrent with you seeding it? That might let you get it out in chunks.

I'd offer to set up an account and let you rsync it to me, but the linux boxes I could let you put it on are on fairly slow connections themselves.

Maybe you can 'rar' them in different small archives, that's easy'er to upload than one big file :)

I posted 5 CDs yesterday to UK addresses (Thanks guys) so hopefully we should have a download location today. Now I'm off to shout some more at which ever poor person gets my call at Virgin Media...
